Hi all, yes I am alive….

It’s been a crazy year since I dropped off the planet early in ‘06…. So sorry to those of you who have left messages on the forum pages. I’m working to catching up with all of those so check back in a few days and there may be an answer there if you had specific questions.

My beautiful wife Suzie presented us with our third (and last) little one on April 18th last year – she is Bridgette Lulu, and was the runt of the litter at a mere 9lb and half an ounce! (The others were well into the 9lb’s) This is pretty surprising since Suzie is a tiny thing, but not only that, we were told by a few different midwives that they didn’t think this one would be quite as big as the last 2…. And in fairness she wasn’t …. quite.

Anyway, Bridge is now 11 months old and doing beautifully.

On a sad note, we’ve said goodbye to a few friends this past 12 months. The first was a dear friend Leigh Rowesthorn who passed away back in July ‘06 at a mere 38 years old. To me he was always ‘Rosy’, and we hung together during many nights of playing around Sydney bars in the mid-‘90’s. He is greatly missed.

More recently was a colleague of mine Billy Thorpe who died of a heart attack at 60. Thorpey (as he was affectionately known in Australia) was a household name in Australia since the ‘60’s when he formed a band called Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. He had many hits in Australia and success in the US also, where he lived for 20 years from ’76 to ’96. I had the ear-splitting pleasure of playing in Thorpeys band thru-out ’96… and some of those nights are still ringing in my ears not just because of the volume, but because they were some of the most amazing musical experiences of my life. In that band also was Steve Edmunds, Paul DeMarco (Rose Tattoo) and Andy Cichon, my friend and colleague from Shania’s band. These guys all remain close friends today.

Also on a sad note, my dear friend and mega music fan, Jack Nau of EMG Electronics sadly passed away a week or 2 ago. Jack was a music lover and always came out to see me play when I was in the area (northern Cal.) – no matter who I was playing with. Jack was a HUGE supporter of mine, and it was always a delight to see his smiling face in the crowd. I will miss our deep conversations about music and life – he was a gentle and beautiful soul, a wonderfully generous spirit, and a joy to be around. I miss him greatly and I can’t imagine how tough this is on his family – my thoughts go to them…

The rest of the past 12 months has seen me here at home looking after the 3 nippers a lot of the time… Mr. Mom if you like… Quite a change for me, to say the least. Suzie has been working hard with no real routine presenting on a TV shopping network here in Australia, as well as becoming one of the more in-demand voiceover artist for TV and radio in Australia.

My music has had to take a back seat lately but is always there, and I get out to the studio (at home here) whenever I have a spare moment… the work on the CD continues, albeit much more slowly than it was when we were living in the US. When I do get out there however, I’m loving the results and can’t wait for it to be out there.

Thanks so much for your support and continued messages of encouragement on the forum pages…. I’ll need all the help I can get once this CD is finished!

Mutt told me recently that he and Shania are writing for another record and so we all wait with baited breathe to see what they come up with… it’s always an exciting prospect to hear the results of their work…. I’ll NEVER forget hearing ‘Getcha Good’ for the first time at Nigel Green’s house in California… I was there with Hardy and Brent and it truly tweaked our minds… naturally we hope that this will mean another tour, but we’ll have to wait and see what direction they want to take this in.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing many friends come thru Sydney on various tours – many of them crew from the Shania tours who have been here with acts like Kelly Clarkson (Cory Churko of course), Backstreet Boys, Green Day, Roger Waters, Evenessence, Garbage and Billy Joel (Andy Cichon). It’s easy to feel marooned here in this far-flung corner of the globe but this helps us feel a little more connected.

I hope to be back in Timmins Ont. for the Fan Convention in August and hope to see as many of you there as can make it.

Cheers for now – and I’ll try to be a better communicator from now on!!

Randall.
